Date: April – May 2017
Venue: XX International Book Fair, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Based on the phrase once shared by the writer during an interview, “I will dedicate myself to being young”, the exhibition Rene del Risco, el oficio de ser joven was conceived. The exhibition includes four areas that offer a synthesized panorama of the life, work, and development of the writer to whom the XX edition of the book fair organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic was dedicated.
In El Cumpleaños de Porfirio Chavez, an area of a retrospective and chronological nature, biographical and documentary elements related to his family and genesis, San Pedro de Macorís, his first loves, the rites of initiation of the sensible life, the double life of a nation is shown: the bohemia that hides politics.
Una primavera para el mundo, comprises the evidence of René’s relationship with his time: it picks up on his preferred spots in Santo Domingo, historical moments and the author’s response to what he had to live.
El Viento Frio, refers directly to the book of the same name, published by the author in 1967. In this area, the exhibition gathers the moment and works related to this historical moment after the revolution of April 1965.
The fourth area, called El mundo sigue, Celina, Vicky, Ton, Belicia y los otros, shines a light on the transcendence and validity of Rene, while showing his family-man side and his impact on other art forms, such as advertising and music: through family photographs, manuscripts and advertising materials, and recordings of his songs.
