Hello, I’m Joel Butler Fernández, an overall creative problem solver with a solid background in cross-functional teams, visual communication, and consistency in brand and design languages.

During the past 20+ years, I have split my time between design and curatorial work. I have led projects and teams with a design thinking methodology and a user-centered approach, while adhering to deadlines and budget constraints.

As a designer, I was part of the Brand/Marketing team at Liquid Web and StellarWP, where I worked with their brands The Events Calendar, LearnDash, Kadence, SolidWP, MemberDash, Orderable, Iconic WP, Give, StellarSites, and StellarPay. I was in charge of the redesigns of SuperCarros.com and SuperCasas.com, which have been successfully running since 2015 and 2016; as well as a variety of clients in the Dominican Republic, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States, tackling branding, communication, and web design projects.

As a Contemporary Art Curator, my primary focus was on cultural projects with institutions such as the Centro León in the Dominican Republic, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Spain, and ARCOMadrid, as well as independent projects for other institutions, cultural spaces, and independent artists.

Additionally, I’ve shared my experience as part of the faculty for the Diploma in Contemporary Art Management and Production at the Altos de Chavón Design School, and I’ve taught courses in art appreciation, creative thinking, and photography.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Universidad APEC in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and I graduated from the Master’s program in Contemporary Art History and Visual Culture from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, in collaboration with Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, Spain. Additionally, I have attended numerous other courses, workshops, and training programs in areas related to these two lines of work.

I currently live in Spain and continue to work in design, curatorship, and research.
